GM CEO Fritz Henderson speaks on the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle that is expected to achieve city fuel economy of at least 230 miles per gallon, based on development testing using a draft EPA federal fuel economy methodology for labeling for plug-in electric vehicles. The Volt, which is scheduled to start production in late 2010 as a 2011 model, is expected to travel up to 40 miles on electricity from a single battery charge and be able to extend its overall range to more than 300 miles with its flex fuel-powered engine-generator.

  • That is nice and all but I want a car that needs 0 gas forever the only oil In the car is for the engine thats it. Also I want it to be affordable to the normal average person. Like less than $20000 would be nice. Till that happens which should have happend a long time ago I won't be impressed by any car maker.

  • So.. If you sold a gas to electric generator as 100% efficient you get sued for fraud. If you sold an electric motor as 300% efficient you get sued for fraud. But if you claim 230 miles per "gallon" on an electric car its ok. Something smells really bad here.

  • Battery cars are still LEMONS. Likely will be for a few more decades.

  • The one video claims only around 40 mpg with the volt. I think it all depends on the package with warranty, options, comfort, safety etc. I wouldn't own a volt unless I won it. Let's see what happens with the battery packs in a few years. But that time flies by fast and not much improvements have been made so far.. I believe they're hiding something and or the Arabs bought the rights.

  • @Louis69 if you live in the state of CA, the additional tax credits you receive makes the Nissan LEAF the car that you speak of.

  • That MPG is given by the guys at the EPA. They have found an error in their calculation. They have corrected it to 125 mpg. And 125 mpg is a whole lot better than 25 mpg we are all getting in our cars right now.

  • The Chevrolet volt is not 230 MPG. That range is so ridiculous it sounds like someone winning a 250 Million dollar lottery ticket on TV. It is so ridiculous you don't even celebrate!!! I'm serious OMG!!!

  • I am a truck guy but I like the volt and the idea of not having to buy gas for traveling back and forth to work. But seriously, how do you go from 230 mpg down to whatever it is now (90, 60, 40)? Seems to me someone was trying real hard to pull the wool over the publics eyes and that's just uncool. Who knows what else they are lying about...

  • It costs 41k for a reason. Its a very high quality car. Not just the technology put into making it. But the Technology you get with it. I only wish they would add the braking system that recharges the electric battery (like the prius) but this car in my opinion is worthly of the Most Economical Car to this date. It completely beats the Prius in my opinion

  • So 230 MPG, but how much are you spending on electricity?

  • 230 mpg? How about EPA's 60 mpg rating. Overpriced piece of shit of a car.
