Belgian carriage horse team of Heritage Farm, from Sanbornton NH. Driven in Gilford NH Old Home Day parade, August 29, 2009. Soggy day and only half the floats showed up, half the vendors got washed out, and a third of the usual crowd attended. These were the only horses, because we chickened out of driving our carriage pair in this monsoon weather.
Gilford Old Home Day parade in the rain, August 29, 2009. First time in 75 years that it rained on our parade!

  • i just meant in general not @ u, sorry :/

  • @harrison98x No offense taken, these are not even my horses just passing in a rainy day parade. I wasn't sure what bearing rein was supposed to mean, now I think you mean just an overly-tight rein.

  • this is mean a bearing rein (tight rein) shortens a horses life because it put pressure on their windpipe

  • @harrison98x What do you mean by a bearing rein? These reins are straight with no slack, as they should be. I agree with you on my Haflingers video, where those teams are wearing overchecks-- I don't believe in using overchecks myself-- but there are no overchecks on these Belgians. And I would say the driver's rein tension is just what you would want in these conditions (a parade), I do see them able to relax their heads down a little. Plus he does loosen the reins when they are standing.

  • A bearing rein is actually a strap that holds a horses head up, completely different from the actual reins used to steer. I don't see one here. Gorgeous horses btw. -3

  • woah he has a MASSIVE neck! =]
