Upset recovery training over Albuquerque NM in an L-39 August 2009
This was a prerequisite to the Eclipse 500 type rating.
This is my sixth type rating and was the coolest training scenario I have ever been through. The guys at HPA/Eclipse in Albuquerque were great.
It had some cool music but something about copyright protection. ;)

  • They used the L-39 because Eclipse owned one and the flight characteristics are very similar to the Eclipse. The shield is NOT blacked out but it is "pilots honor" to close your eyes when the "upset" is being initiated and then open them and recover by instruments or other visual cues. This isnt as much testing ones ability to recover using instruments, its primary purpose is to give pilots a feeling of what it is like when the aircraft is "upset" and possibly inverted when entering wake turbulance

  • Forgot, is the top of the shield blacked out? Upset or unusual attitude recovery is typically done with minimal visual cues.

  • so how much was the type rating and the upset recovery training, if you dont mind? Im just curious
