I get that it's comedy, and I don't really care about this specific instance. But if you're not gay, then you don't really understand how hearing the word "gay" to describe something in a negative way can affect someone who might be struggling with their sexuality.

It's the reason I didn't come out until college. It's how I can tell if I want to come out to someone or not. It's a small thing, but for a young gay person, it can mean a lot.

I don't think comedy should be scrutinized and we ought to be able to laugh at stuff blah blah blah BUT it's offensive because regardless of the context they are using the word "gay" in an ignorant juvenile way. it really isn't funny, we need to stop using words like "retarded" and "gay" to denote humor because it's bad taste. and Vince Vaughn's quote is completely arbitrary, I haven't seen the film but I'm SURE he's not talking about bullying or anything serious in the scene, gimme a break lol.

I seem to recall this thing I read somewhere that US Citizens have the ability to say things....hmm....what was that called...? Oh yeah! The right to Free Speech as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution! It's so important, it's the FIRST AMENDMENT!

Agree with it or not, like it or not, think it's funny or not, it's protected under the First Amendment. Period.

It had the RIGHT to be there and people had the RIGHT to object.
