  • I would strongly recommend the FS-100 if you plan to use P2 Format.

The FS-5 will only record P2 DV (25) but not the DVCPRO 50/HD because the FS-5 uses a very small 1.8" HardDrive and they are not yet fast enough for the high DVCPRO HD Data-Rate - running with 100mbit/s!!!

Using the FS-100 you will have full P2 Format support for MXF, Quicktime and all P2 Formats- also the PN P2 Format. Be sure to have Premiere CS3 or higher for best MXF-File support! FCP runs great with the Quicktime-Files.

  • Happy New Year - sorry for answering so late... christmas vacation =)

The FS-5 is an alrounder! But if you want to record QuickTime 720/24p HDV, you will need a MR-HD100 or DR-HD100 because it is a JVC special format.

If you are referring to QuickTime 1080i/24F HDV (sometimes called 1080i/24P, then you will need an FS-CV or FS-C cause it is a Canon specific format.

All other models (incl. FS-5) can only record these formats as m2t which is not perfect for FCP. Did this answer your question?

  • Next to the standard 3 hour battery there is a 6 hour battery pack for the FS-5. If you want to do longer recordings that are not stationary there are special mount kits form IDX and Anton Bauer where the FS runs with the Camera Battery Pack.

    Does this help?

  • Cool!

can I use this product with CS3 Prem (PC) and also can I record in PAL?

  • Hi!

Of course you can! The FS-5 even has an integrated Preset to record for Premiere CS3 so the files can be importet later without problems and delay.

Concerning PAL/NTSC: You will recieve a NTSC unit buying in the USA/Japan - if you buy outside USA/Japan it will be PAL! The FS-5 is not switchable between PAL/NTSC.

    Hope I could help! =)

  • Thank you for your reply. I am looking into getting a Panasonic P2 and recording straight onto the FS-5. Then using FCP or worst case scenario Premier Pro but I would prefer FCP. Do you see any problems and if so, is there anything extra I need to purchase?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

  • I have read some reviews that say you cannot convert to HDV 24P files in HD mode and instead must convert to m2t files, which is not idea for Final Cut Pro. Is that true and if so, what is the solution?

    Thanks

  • Is there a Battery improvement coming so that one can use a 10 hour battery for a 10 hour 100gb FS5 or FS4???

  • Thnks for the help.

I see you have no distributors in Norway.

    We could be interested.

    PM... on its way.

  • I want one. I think the first positive commenter should be given one :)
