Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Anthony Perkins, and Laurence Harvey. "I'm too dumb for the phone company, and too old for the 5 & Dime." An amoral drifter becomes the voice of a bigoted conservative radio station, but his apathy is challenged by a disfigured prostitute and an introverted social worker. Newman called this lost gem his best and most significant film, but critics and audiences at the time either disagreed or completely ignored it. Director Stuart Rosenberg effectively captures the sadness of the decaying city and it's marginalized citizens, as well as the harshness of a political ideology that cares little for the less fortunate among us. With Pat Hingle, Wayne Rogers, and Cloris Leachman. Based on the novel Hall of Mirrors by Robert Stone, who also penned the screenplay.
