This is one of the coolest and most impressive dog tricks to have in your pups repetoire.

This particular method of training this trick works very well for smaller dogs!

check out youtube user zsianz1 's video tutorial on how to teach this trick!

  • He is reluctant to place paws on it with luring, and often drags it towards him which i don't click for. Only if he holds his paw there. After checking out zsianz1's video I think the problem would only be worse if I did this. But will try. Help? xxx

  • whoops didnt see this part, hmm... weird he doesnt want to put his paws on it. Perhaps wrap the phone book in a towel or cover it with a mat, so that its more inviting to stand on.

  • I am determined to train this one with my flat coat x. I have already clicker trained a really fun 'it's yours' command where he pulls something towards him with his paw. This means it's very difficult to get him to paw something without dragging it towards him as he seems very stuck on this behaviour with whatever object i give him.

  • I think just using a plain old lure will work. Lure him onto a phone book, keeping his head up and looking at the treat and click him for stepping up. Repeat like 20 times, and then try shaping it (just to give him a hint of what you want first)

  • Great video Emily !! Where did you get that shirt?

  • Pam got it for me for Xmas from cafepressdotcomslashnoshockstore

  • I love this trick. We are learning it right now. What command do you use for it though?

  • I wish I could teach mine this.... My dogs are too tall and I'm too short! They don't fit under me!

  • Tried for a couple mins with a book, no luck. Switched to a mat and instant results! Puppy knows better than to stand on books... :)

  • now that i have my dog reliably standing on my feet I found out that his 40kg are too heavy for me to start walking ;)

  • Great training advice, thanks! :)

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial! At first when i started training my Westie he wouldn't do anything. I had to later skip the steps of the paw targeting, and just went into the part of bringing him in between my legs. This actually worked! I now have him putting both paws on my shoes and, being able to move around a bit! Thanks so much! I know when this trick is done it will look so cute!(:

  • This was really good :] It's really useful when your dog already knows targeting. How did you teach Splash to bounce?

  • Hi kikopup, my dog is extremely intelligent, and knows almost 100 different tricks, but I cannot seem to get her to dothe Cop Cop trick! She is reluctant to place BOTH paws on my feet, and if she does, it is on only one foot, not both. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

  • how many dogs do u have

  • LOOOOVE Splash'es bounce!!!!!!!
