I think he is trying to say that the throttle plate isn't always sitting flat in the throttle bore. Your diagram shows the throttle plate at idle position. While driving you open up that passageway further and the "benefits" of your groove would diminish.

Hmm, sounds interesting. As an engineering student, I'm just getting into this stuff and your idea seems to make sense. My 94 4.3 GMC gets awful mileage, on $160 worth of fuel, I can only go 800km (500mi).

"This seems like an over simplification since the throttle position changes dynamically and isn't just in that one position." - the comment I posted in the story we published today at PESN

@PESNetwork I'm sorry, you don't give your name or the URL. I'd like to see the article...
There is more to it than appears! As the engine increases in RPM's, so does the pressure created on The Groove, as it is generated by engine demand.
Does this help?

People try to tell me no gas saving things work. They don't understand how an engine works. We know we are not burning all the fuel in the cylinder because smog exist. We know we can make more power with cylinder heads and camshafts etc. This increase efficiency making more power, but it also reduce the amount of fuel burned cruising. To take it to the next level you need a deeper understanding of what is happening in the engine. You show some of this deeper understanding in this video.
