FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN (1732-1809)

Concerto for pianoforte and orchestra in D major Hob. XVIII: II

2. Un poco adagio

Performed by the Freiburger Barockorchester
Featuring Andreas Staier, pianoforte
Conducted by Gottfried von der Goltz

*This concerto was likely written later in Haydn's life, perhaps shortly before the first publications of it appeared in 1784. It was Haydn's most popular piano concerto during his lifetime and was the only one to remain in the repertoire since it's publication.

The third movement titled "all'Ungarese" is based on a dance melody that may be of Croation origin.
