Here we have a Seagate 80GB drive which came in dead. It turned out to have a seized spindle motor. I got one last run out of it by hand loosening and helping with an electric drill. Note the quick lockup as it spins up.

  • Yes, the bearings were damaged somehow. Probably just failed during operation one day, it was given to me in a very stuck state.

  • did you fix it?

  • btw: forgot to mention this Seagate 80GB ext. drive will not power on and I suspect a faulty power cable finally killed this drive. The PC I have to connect to is a Dell Optiplex (piece of poop).

  • Love the tongue out at the end hilarious! Ok, have seagate 80GB trying to retrieve data off of it. Figure my best bet is to crack the case and hook it up to the Dell PC I have...but I have a question for you: Will opening and connecting to a PC to retrieve data be as easy as with MYBOOK (WD)? Or will I find different components to deal with that may prevent me from doing this? If so, do you have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • Someone probably dropped it.

  • dont throw it away, you can make a speaker out of it ^^

  • whats the music?

  • Fucked bearings it seem, oh well another one bites the dust.
