The San Jose State Spartans played the Naval Academy Midshipmen for the first time on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 in Spartan Stadium. San Jose State won, 27 - 24, in a well played, hard fought contest. Navy had 344 yards in total offense, while San Jose State had 465.

Keys to the Spartans' win was QB Matt Faulkner (33 of 44, 345 yards with 1TD and 1 interception), Brandon Rutley (132 yards rushing, 101 yards receiving), Travis Johnson (11 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss) and Keith Smith (10 total tackles). Other contributors were Ryan Otten (8 catches for 101 yards) and Tiuke Tuipulotu (9 total tackes, 1 sack, 1 TFL and one forced fumble).

The first in a 4 game series, next year will be in Annapolis. Thanks to Navy for what they do for the United States and for coming to San Jose to play football.
