This song is from the original album recorded in 1963. It has the spoken intro by Ray introducing one of the very first country "theme albums". Note that he mentions that the song was written by a boy down TEXAS WAY. That boy was the then unknown Willie Nelson who later became a member of Ray's band. The great Buddy Emmons is on the steel guitar.

  • Great song and one great underated singer..I love Mr. Ray Price's music.

  • A bit of trivia-When this album came out, LOTS of C&W radio stations would not let their DJ's play it becausethey felt IT WAS NOT COUNTRY AND WESTERN MUSIC! They finally did and the rest is history. We danced to it last week at a Jake Hooker dance and the floor was packed. Willie wrote a killer and Ray "stuck it on that sucker!! 10++++The whole album is great!

  • Definitely one of Willie's best and Ray does a great job interpreting it along with Buddy Emmons on the steel guitar. They just don't make great songs like this anymore...

  • I just heard this on Willie's Roadhouse on Sirius Radio. I raced home to find this version of it. I love it. It's like Sinatra meets country meets blues. Haunting but oh so smooth!

  • Years ago, Price recorded this number with a full orchestra. It was a great arrangement with strings. Wish someone would upload that version if they have it.

  • Love the "Ray Price" shuffle. I interviewed Ray on his tour bus last year and he hasn't lost anything. An American treasure he said "Ya we're really gettin' after it" A true understatement.

  • It was the steel guitar intro of Buddy Emmons on this song that turned me on to Ray Price music.

  • @manny5442 I'm certain the steel guitar on this side is played by Buddy Emmons.

If you search here on youtube for "Buddy Emmons Night Life" I think you'll find something you 'll like.

  • Took my 9 year old grandson to the Utah state fair to see Ray about 3 weeks ago Sept 12 I believe, Ray will be 85 in November and his voice is still pure. What a treat to shear with my grandson. Smooth, caring, clear voiced, and signed autographs for an hour and a half afterwards. Fantastic.

  • This album was recorded in 1962

  • Last night I dreamed that Ray Price came into my house. He was very friendly and gave me alot of good advices about life and music. It feels so real. Its like i met him for Real.Great inspiration.

  • I'm telling you about it! Thank you, Willie & Ray.....:-)
