Here, I am giving my husband a leisurely drive in Farrugut State Park, Idaho. The llamas, Nugget and Sundae, were kindly loaned to me by Barb Brady who organises an annual Llama Drive-In there.

  • I cant suggest a make, sorry. Have a look at the llama carts on the Net..they are all lightweight and "easy entry". Many lightweight pony carts are the same build. I've measured my cart today for you. The shafts (mid-shaft) are 84 cms from the ground. They are 147 cms long and, at the front, they are 59 cms apart, centre of shaft to centre of shaft. The cart weighs 100 lbs (45 kgs).

  • I admirer of all your videos and well trained llamas! I'm i right in saying your in based in the UK? if so any idea where i can get a llama cart from by the USA.

wishing you best of luck from France

  • @ecoferme Hello. Yes, I'm in UK. I understand "Llama Hardware" in Washington State will supply llama carts worldwide. You can get the details by Googling in their name.

But why not save yourself a lot of money by using a pony cart? I do. The shafts are a little shorter than the llama cart, but that's the only difference and the driving animal soon gets used to the shaft length on the turns. I got mine from eBay... about a quarter of the price of importing a llamacart. Give it a thought!

  • Are they fluffy all year around? And when you clip them for the woll is it like clipping a horse/sheep?

These are stunning animals do many get driven around the world?

  • Llamas vary enormously. Some are short coated but others will grow several inches a year. I shear for their comfort; there is no commercial, and very little recreational interest in the fibre here in UK. We have thousands of alpacas here and really their wool is superior for the spinners.

Amazingly, llamas have never been driven in their native South America. We have just two drivers here in UK. But there are many in USA .... and I believe mainland Europe and also Australia has some.

  • Aw! That's so neat! I have a question though, do they have more fancy looking llama carts available? Like for special event-type things, such as Christmas, rides and such. XD I plan on begging my aunt to teach some of her llamas to drive so next time I come visit we can ride around in santa hats caroling in town or something.

  • Llama carts tend to be all the same basic design, but you can decorate them. I put coloured lights on mine at Christmas and tinsel round the shafts. Also, most pony carts can be drawn by llamas that are trained to pull carts, though the shafts are usually a few inches too short. Note though: it is not every llama that is suitable for driving!

  • I prefer llama-powered transportation, as horses are too mainstream.

  • süüüüüüüüüüßxD

  • ok thanks for the tips, i did look at a few pony/donkey carts but they seem too wide in the shafts. .... and the ones that's seemed right where too low, can you suggest a particular make or size.

p.s i think they should do a movie starring llama carting!

  • thats so cool!!

  • Haha I love their waddle! :)
