Having read the book first,this movie disappointed me;they reduced the scope of the story,eliminated several characters,and completely changed the ending.

I know,I know---the mid-70's.Science fiction and fantasy movies were not the major draw they are now.

@ctdsnark Glad you like the footage. Was a project for fun that I think turned out pretty well.  I know what you mean about the book, although my experience was reversed. I saw the movie first as a little kid in the '70s and loved it. Then the first time I read the book it took me totally by surprise. Love the book(s) and hope to one day see a closer film version. Still love the movie for its own reasons, maybe one being childhood memories. Extremely far from so much of the book through.

Thanks Capsizebrain... I agree with you on the models. They were great, and huge! However the way they were shot just didn't sell it. And the water made them look smaller than they were. I'm a huge fan of miniatures, which I always prefer... but I love what cgi allows me to do on my desktop. So I try to keep the feel of the original and not go overboard with the graphics. Like the music idea, may have to put that together.

I do have more of the city. Maybe I'll upload the raw effects I rendered which feature all the shots separately. There's no audio with them, just the visuals. I'll see if I can find them on the hard drive.

i saw this movie on vhs as a kid,it was great...have to watch it again somehow to relive those childhood memories :D

I personally prefer "The Island" a lot more than this film. They've very similar but The Island's storyline is better and the graphics are great.

Saw the movie when it first came out. Years later read the book and liked the book better. The movie seemed to be loosely based on a SF book I read back in the sixties about an enclosed underground city and one man's attempt to escape the city. I'm sorry but I don't remember the name of the book. In that book he finally makes it out of the city, finds the outside world, and then returns to the enclosed city to liberate the people. The movie borrowed pretty freely from that book.
