The middle exhaust is to direct the other exhaust gasses away from the the turbines through a waste gate when the turbo's are at full pressure. Although the F458 has 3 as well and that does not have a turbo.

Yes yes yes.

F40 has a 2.9 V8 with twin turbos. It's a evolution of the 288 GTO and if you see the exhaust pipes of an F40 you'll see three outlets. The one in the middle is for the big wastegate for both turbos. Check online before commenting my friend.

i don`t know how some tell it`s turbo lag not being there watchin` the man`s feet.from what i know the f40 has very little lag...but it`s there:)
