  • Interesting to see this humpback in the company of the fin whales. I thought the different rorqual species avoided contact with each other due to potential prey competition.

  • @steelersguy74 Hi steelersguy, I guess irish whales are just more sociable! Quite often see them together here...

  • Fantastic stuff! I was watching from the cliffs that day and I was very envious of you lot in the Holly Jo being so close to the action, this video kind of makes up for it.

  • We encountered at least three different humpback whales including 'Boomerang' who has been recorded in 6 out of the previous 7 years off the south coast. I previously saw it in the waters off Ardmore in Co. Waterford in July this year. This whale is easily recognised not only by the markings on the underside of his tail, but by his scarred and deformed dorsal fin. This day he was found in the company of 2 fin whales. The other 2 humpbacks we saw were juveniles.

  • It's amazing the richness and diversity of the cetacean fauna of this part of the Irish coastline. There is no whale watch operator to compare with Colin Barnes, for delivering world class whale watching and those classic encounters. Padraig Whooley, IWDG

  • The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group have been carrying out photo ID work on large whales off the south coast for several years now. For details on this work and how you can help please click on 'more info' under my icon top right of page and you will find a link there for that and how to book your own trip with Colin Barnes.

  • Have seen "Boomerang" in the company of fin whales a few times. Been out with Colin quite a bit... absolutely phenomenal whale watching off the coast of West Cork.

  • very good video man

  • well im from belfast and the best site i ever seen in my life was 9 dolphins in carnlough bay on the antrim coast

  • Deadly footage,Ireland is up there with the rest of them when it comes to whales off the south/south west coast

Saw about 100 Fin/Sei whales near South Georgia last year, remarkable

  • Fantastic stuff and to think I nearly went on that particular trip. That'll learn me for being lazy.

  • Amazing footage. I need to get back to West Cork!

    Keep up the good work.
