(Part 3) Atras village, Palestine: The trees are gone

Israeli Occupation Forces demolish the land of the Abu Swai family, in the village of Artas near Bethlehem.

This plot of land, now torn apart, will serve as a space where the illegal Israeli settlers of Efrat will drain their sewage.

Me as a gardener would love to save this trees - but...

1. Getting the trees out without destroying the roots, is difficult even with a big digger.

2. Transporting the trees in this climate and in times of bloom will kill most of the trees. The surviving trees will loose their fruits.

3. 90% of the trees will die on the transport to an other place.

Uprooting this trees was the only way to get this project done as fast and cheep as possible. It sounds hard but thats the truth.

Im a gardener and i hate destruction of somebody others gardenwork - in this case farmwork!

But just think of some points:

1. Israel will compensate the farmers for the destruction of the trees even if they were planted without permission.

2. Building around the illegal planted trees,will cost more then compensating the trees xx times.

3.The IDF is not uprooting the apricot-trees! The trees get uprooted by a company - the IDF just protect the workers from getting lynched.
