Kodak Zx1 Pocket Video Camera Test Footage

This is raw footage taken on cannock chase (in staffordshire, UK) on 8th April 2009. I have not edited it in any way. It is raw footage straight from the camcorder. Shot in standard HD mode (30fps). In my opinion the video this camcorder produces is fantastic, but the sound is rubbish. There is often alot of background hissing on the videos the camera produces - and I find that I have to turn my tv / computer volume up very loud to be able to hear the video. You probably can't hear much hissing in this video because the wind overpowers it - it is more noticeable indoors. You may notice in this video that the sound is sometimes crackly when filming windy situations - it is far more crackly that other camcorders I have tried and this is another reason why I don't like it. It's a shame because it has so many good features (such as sd card slot) and is aesthetically pleasing. It would be perfect if the sound wasn't a problem. I uploaded this video so you can see for yourself - although I don't know as this gives a great impression - I will try to upload others.

Watch other Zx1 test clips on youtube, you will probably find you have to turn the volume up high on your computer to hear them.

WTF looks better than my sony cam, and its 1/3 of the price.

@pcgamerslave what's the sound like on the sony cam? - as I said in the description -> sound quality of this camcorders recordings is not good.

Sound aint bad on the cam, Can I ask what class of sd card you are using I dont know if its worth getting a class 10 or staying with 6 or even 4?

@tvalentinethe2nd not sure if you're asking me about the sd card I'm using for the Zx1, or if you're asking pcgamerslave about the sony cam. If you're asking me, my answer is that I don't actually have the Zx1, but i'm pretty sure I used both class 6 and class 4 sd cards, both worked fine as far as I can remember. I never tried class 10. Hope that helps.

In my previous comment I meant to say I don't actually have the Zx1 anymore. I used to have it, but now have a Flip UltraHD.

@fakfunk Hi, can I ask how long you have had the camera? - I think there may have been a firmware update released recently that has fixed the problem. If this is the case I may decide to take this video down so as not to put people off buying one now if theirs would not have the problem.

Oh, one final point - Flip released a camcorder called the Zi6 before the Zx1, the sound quality was worse on that I think so they have improved it but sadly not enough.

No problem, yes it is a shame about the sound quality of the kodak because if it had good sound it would be perfect to be honest. It would be really nice if the Flip allowed SD cards so that isn't perfect either. Plus I find the lack of image stabilization on the flip quite annoying but the Kodak didn't have that either. Anyway, I'm glad my advice has been helpful, I would love to read your blog, send me a link if you like.
