Exactly, he doen't have a marketing campaign like Villazon has. Also, he doesn't have Domingo as his mentor. Yet, Beczala is a much better singer.
He was not hidding. He just doesn't have the connections and marketing campaign that singers like Villazon have. That's all.
And let me tell you something, there are other great tenors out there like Joseph Calleja. Again, without a strong marketing campaign.

@piax00 I don't agree that he is the best living tenor. I think he is the best living tenor in this vocal fach. For the leggiero lyrico roles, I love the work of Brownlee, Spyres and Tarver.

Damn, why couldn't he sing like this when I saw him and he totally bombed Faust in Chicago. Glad he can bring it for his recordings at least.

I always believed they grow "great tenors" in Zuerich. 2 names come to mind. Kaufmann and Beczala.

@bigus omg, you are right about brownlee. i just listened to him now. his repertoire has potential to be more extended than beczala's or flores'. in a few more years he will be the best. i think his voice still needs to fill up more and in a decade he could be singing like pavarotti

Tomek! Thanks for this great clip. wonderful artist who also started in Linz. . but thank God he got the right repetoire there and built a nice career from that point. Is this clip from Zurich? I know he did alot there with Santi. All my best . Keep in touch
