@TheVriezenveen He's not suicidal, he's stupid (for getting that close to a bear with food-he's a good guy). Suicidal and stupid are two totally different things. I think when he first went into the woods someone told him there was just a bear cub whose mother had been poached, and then the bear ended up being a lot bigger than he had anticipated.

Black Bears account for the majority of all attacks. Most are Males that do the attacking, so the argument of getting between a female and her cubs is moot.

OR you can continue to believe what you believe.

welp.. if it makes you feel any better... this bear is as good as dead now.. In their drive to find food, bears will take advantage of any readily available food sources, whether natural or from human activity. Even though bears are naturally shy creatures that avoid people, a hungry bear exploiting a food source can quickly learn to associate humans with food and can become a nuisance. Therefore the rangers WILL kill a nuisance bear.
