Icy - Gleðibankinn (1986 Iceland Eurovision Song Contest)

The performance of the Icelandic entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1986. This was Iceland's first participation - one of the team members is Eirikur Hauksson who also represented the country in 2007 and Norway in 1991.

Too good for 16th place. I think it took this place because of the orchestra, which didn't play it as good as in the studio version. For me this song is the winner that year!

As a Swedish lingustics nerd, the most interesting about Icelandic to me is, that it still pretty much is the same language, that our common ancestors spoke one thousand years ago. The old more complicated grammar, that we Swedes only can find in some old expressions these days, is still very much alive in Icelandic and Faroese. In this song, the expressions "i Gledhibankanum" and "tóman blús" are great examples of this.
