New York's Not My Home

Lyrics/Music: Jim Croce

Well things were spinnin' round me
And all my thoughts were cloudy
And I had begun to doubt
All the things that were me

Been in so many places
You know I've run so many races
And looked into the empty faces
Of the people of the night
And something is just not right

And I know that I gotta get out of here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get out of here
'Cause New York's not my home

Though all the streets are crowded
There's something strange about it
I lived there 'bout a year
And I never once felt at home

I thought I'd make the big time
I learned a lot of lessons awful quick
And now I'm tellin' you
That they were not the nice kind
And it's been so long since I have felt fine

That's the reason that I gotta get out of here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get out of here
'Cause New York's not my home

(repeat)

  • very nice. nice voice, nice playing of guitar very clean and clear!!!!!!

  • Taken way too soon from us ...

  • wonder if he ever played this live in New York.

  • @cedredecat I agree to a point. I was a Crew Chief (glorified gunner/mechanic) on a chopper (helicopter) in the Marine Corps. Really a chopper is a rotary wing aircraft, or "airplane". At least with a chopper, if the main rotor isn't locked up or the rotor blades aren't damaged--and if you're above 300 feet--there is at least a chance of auto rotating and having a rough but relatively safe landing. In Stevie Ray Vaughan's case it was the weather and pilot, not the chopper, that killed him.

  • @kansasisaband Hard Time Losin' Man according to eBay ;-) Oh, and Jim died on September 20th...3 days before my birthday on the 23rd. We have a lot in common ;-)

  • @cedredecat I had the album with Jim standing in the window sill staring out at you. I didn't have the 45 i had the 33 rpm ! :-) I would guess Rapid Roy? I don't honestly know.
