For those of you with the keen analytical mind I'll save you the trouble of typing "FAKE!!!". Yes, obviously this is not a real, life-threatening crash. That's why it's categorized: Entertainment. We were there for a month, with lots of boring down time.

  • When was this taken I've worked on the kenetech for over 10 years and have not seen these machines run

  • Scroll back in the comments and you'll see my entry stating that it was in 1992.

  • This really isn't funny. You can see the busted Fayette machines trashing the Altamont hills all over the Jess ranchect. These machines are number one when people think of failed wind projects. Surprised they even got one working!

These machines where crap even in the 1980s, the Danish built Micon machines across the street are far better built.

  • FINALLY, somebody who actually knows something about this. Can you believe some people actually think for a second this video might be for real? We were on the Fayette site in 1992 testing a prototype 100kw machine on one of their MANY empty tower foundations. I have a nice photo of 4 of those pieces of crap in the frame... 1 producing power, 1 rusty and shutdown, 1 laying on the ground and 1 pointing downwind and slowly turning over backwards. I agree, a blight on the skyline.

  • FAKE!!!

  • Of course it's fake! That's why it's in the Entertainment section. I didn't even edit it all that well, sheesh.

  • Hilariously fake, I love it.

  • is kenetech still around?

  • yeah, fake

  • Super DAVE!!!

  • "Altamont's turbines have since 2008 been tethered four months of every year in an effort to protect migrating birds after environmentalists filed suit. According to the Golden Gate Audubon Society, 75 to 110 Golden Eagles, 380 Burrowing Owls, 300 Red-tailed Hawks, and 333 American Kestrels (falcons) are killed by Altamont turbines annually."

  • fake.......................

  • isn't it extremely dangerous to even get near these when they have a failure like this ?

  • This is freakin´ fake....

The gearbox sounded bad, but it wouldent go this fast and especially not without some more noise.
