MGM film star and the first Blonde glam girl Jean Harlow (who sadly died at only 26!) looks great as she sings about her longings and outlook in the 1935 MGM film "Reckless!" and later is "sung" to her by another star early in his career, Cary Grant, as he trys to sing to her a song she had just sung to him, "DID I EVER TELL YOU?" during a scene from the 1936 MGM film "Suzy" they did together.
I wont say the singing in their movie wasn't good in the context of the film, it was good even if his singing to her was pretty grim (yet cute!) in that Cary Grant way, after all he was really singing of love as was she! I liked him and Jean Harlow together, and both he and Jean's hard as nails sassy voice is captured in this color (or colour) video I cobbled together from assorted audio and video clips and stills with help from a yt friend.
Jean could have been a singer as well as a great actress, if she had only lived, such a tragic loss, this video is dedicated to Jean Harlow!

Credits also to Sophia from her DavidHenesy fan page for her help in the assemblage of this video, I am grateful.

  • the book by David Stenn says that when Harlow tried to sing, she couldn't. So they had a voice-over actress sing all her parts. Original wording went something like "Can't sing a lick."

  • this was Jean singing with her own voice in this video.

  • That is correct Amy, and David Stenn's book is incorrect as is the person naming it regarding Jean Harlow.

  • Beautiful tribute to a legend from Hollywood's golden era! Thanks for posting!

  • THE new Victor Fleming book claims he thought RECKLESS was a failure i looked up the profit of that film it was a runaway hit! so much for biog. maybe it was what the critics were saying - when did critics ever like a sex symbol....

  • LOVE this video too of "Baby"

The sexy Jean Harlow and her lover in this Cary Grant!?

    WOOO HOO!

  • Thanks for giving me credits AMJ, but its all for a tribute to a nice young woman Jean Harlow whom I never knew of before you gave me the concept and a storyboard to work with!!!

But gee she sweet, and must have been very popular, she was from my great grandma's time I think!

It was my pleasure, this project and good stuff you gave me to work from nice colour shots of her and some real fine and darn good audeo!

So dearie we will always have her films she really glowed and was sassy!!!
