@soloinpomona but he recognized this and decided that he could either die while he still had some fraction of his former life and vigor or waste away into something that mocked his former stature. I think he made the right decision, even though it did unfortunately end one of the most brilliant careers in literary history.

@soloinpomona I agree completely with you. Of all people, Ernest was the best candidate for suicide. I say this with my complete respect and passion for Hemingway, and by it i mean that it allowed him to maintain complete control and authority over himself, and like you said, die by his own choice. He would not have allowed anything other than his own authority to decide his fate. He made it himself. Unfortunately, he was already being influenced by his depression and other physical decline,

@Skullz1595 He died by his choice. Would you rather that he suffer dismally with numerous aflictions? He wan't to die on his feet and able. Not in some slow vegatative state. Don't be offended. You must be young right?

Heavens to Murgatroid! Hemingyway's "A Farewell to Arms" was a novel about World War I ??? I always thought it was a biography of the Venus DeMilo !!!

Ernest Hemingway was a great man,he was my distant cousin,he was a great writer and many other things, but how he died is the horrible decision on his part.

For the simple misery of sitting through some inane Vegas commercial to git to Michael Palin, I loath this. A sadness, really.
The rest of it is top notch, however.

@ECheGuevera good comment. Too many people confuse accomplished people with 'perfect' people. Some very talented artists were or are miserable, personality -free human beings. You put it very succinctly.
