  • 1. The politician's Pledge is to implement policies set by supporters. Also, the will of the people will be formally recognised. (The information age)

    2. Politicians have nothing to loose and can gain votes now, yes. If they don't they may loose their seats. But as global problems get increasingly worse, it is going to be in everyone's interest to cooperate to solve them. As more people realise the need for intelligent self-interest, cooperation, Pledge welching will be political suicide

  • ...these Adopters' policies are supposed to dictate (or at least guide) the global negotiations that governments are engaged in with others, who are similarly trying to insigate their Adopters' mandates, which might be completely different. Further, Adopters are asked to pledge to prefer a pledging politician, but can withdraw their Adoption at any time, just as politicians will, as politicans always do. I imagine candidates signed up know there's an edge in it, and they've nothing to lose.

  • I don't think it's workable. I agree with most of flangecake2000's criticisms. Activist innovators like John Bunzl often have these marvellous political systems for implementing policies, without thinking through how the policies are going to be decided. They'll be "democratic", but as flangecake2000 says, somebody has to construct that democratic process, it doesn't just grow organically at all. Adopters will want to know what is being done in their name. Then, if I understand correctly...

  • flangecake 2000 - there's no vetting of suggestions in the way you suggest. It is for Simpol Adopters to support policies or not. Regarding your other criticisms, our leaders are already setting global policies, but behind closed doors where the rich, powerful countries force through their agenda. Simpol at least requires policy proposers to put their case and win support amongst people around the world. Every Adopter has the same right to make proposals and to vote.

  • I would guess that the representatives of various groups of citizens will band together into larger groups who all share the same interests. the rich people wont want the same thinsg as the poor people after all....so we have parties...oh dear.

  • So in other words groups of citizens vote in a representative who will support their interests. This rep (who must be sufficiently qualified) will then suggest policies to a commitee who will sort between numerous suggestions and ideas and finally come up with the most appropriate policies. Oh, and the commitee will have to be appointed by the public. In fact may as well make the representatives form the commitee. This is starting to sound like regular government...
