British Muslim Adil Ray visits Turkey, where the role of Islam in everyday life and politics is the most pressing issue.

From a pro-alcohol protest in Istanbul to an Islamic wild boar hunt in the forests, Adil encounters an unfamiliar strand of secular Islam that has a long tradition in Turkey. Yet a more conservative Islam, centred in the country's Asian heartland, is now coming to the fore through the current AKP government, and the country is in a state of flux. Public protests, allegations of coup plots and court cases around the right to wear headscarves lead to fears for Turkey's future.

  • HOw you can call Attaturks laws as draconian while not saying anything about the barbarc sharia law is beyond reason. Secularism is very modern and Attaturk has given us freedom. Attaturk saved turkey from defeat of the arabs siding with the british. Arab Muslim joining kafir to kill turk muslim. Going from a united Ottoman empire to many corrupt kingdoms. Todays Turkey would have been British ruled if it wasnt for Attaturk another Iraq, Gaza, etc etc etc . Keep the filth sharia out of Turkey.

  • Turkey's secularists are examples of secular zealots. One thing I found interesting is that there examples mostly consist of Alcohol or filth similar to that to show "Islamist" paranoia. That is such a dumb topic. Why can't they use some better topic?

The only thing they are afraid of is the fllth they have to give up. It doesn't take a genius to realize what Alcohol does to a society.

  • @Skrufmeister02 I completely agree with you. The very reason the world admires Turkey is because despite having almost 98% of the population as Muslim, it is secular and welcoming of people across religions and ethnicity.

  • Religous fools are nothing to be proud of, Turkey should be proud of their secular laws, which has made them the best middle eastern/muslim country to live in

  • i don't want friggin djihadists designing my social environment.

  • turkish muslims use arabic language for their pray. the result of this they dont know what they are talking about.:) girls wear hicap but they put on make up and wearing jeans or attracting clothes.it is funny to see girls like a clown. the dilemma is very strong for them to deal with... My solution is simple islam and sharia are not suitable for modern humans, so they have to get rid of this middle age dogmatic arabic traditions...

  • How dumb is that wig wearing girl, saying she doesn't want to be fashionable by having nice hair, then why is she wearing make-up? WTFF

  • Dinci sapiklar, allah belarinizi versin. Kus beyinliler. Ulan sanki senin sacinmi seni insan yapiyor. Peruku birakta kendi sacini kullan. Allah sana kendi sacini vermis

  • @NecipPerver well bad news then, cuz we can go in any british or so called " kafir " university with a scarf freely. yes we can even wear a burqa in so called "kifir" country. but not in an islamic country like turkey . shame on you

  • Mercan is very close to crying when Adil Ray asks her: " Do you think wearing a headscarf may cause you a problem in the future for getting a job as well?" and she answers: " yes it's also banned in public institutions"

Oh what a pity for Turkey's future!!.
