Hugo Weaving grew the beard because he was costarring in Hedda Gabler in NYC at the same time VfV was released. Female fans' varying hormonal responses to facial hair were the last thing on his mind. ;) Hugo does sometimes grow a beard between film projects, but nothing this full. And eventually he'll always shave it off for another role. He's had a facial hair configuration to suit every fan at one time or another in his career. Me, I like the variety. ;)

I very much enjoyed his answer to the terrorism/violence question. He seems like an insightful man.
