The Francis J. Dewes House, Part 3, the private quarters

Earlier today I spent an hour walking through and marveling at the Francis J. Dewes House in Lincoln Park.

The home was one of the most lavishly detailed and decorated homes in Chicago when it was built in the 1890s, and remains in that category today. It's a Chicago landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The home has undergone a 6-year restoration and renovation, and is expected to be on the market soon, priced at $9.9 million.

In this third and final part of my tour I walk through the private spaces of the home. The highlights include a master suite converted from a ballroom that once hosted parties for up to 300. The lower level of the home has a family room, media room, billiards room, a wet bar and kitchenette, a maid's room and multiple baths.

This mansion is simply breathtaking. I'm always elated to see these historic homes preserved. Although in having to live here I do understand updates must be made but it does distract from the originality of the place.
