If you've ever watched Penn & Teller's "Bullshit!", they tracked PETA finances to find some really disturbing stuff including the freezer I just commented about. A little more research on your own and you can find some fucked up connections to animal rights terrorist groups (such as the ALF) and a whole lot of hypocrisy. They're also really racist. If you've ever caught some of their adverts comparing livestock to African slaves or Holocaust victims, you'd know what I mean.

I routinely kill flies. I hate the bastards. I own rabbits. Have you seen what flies do to a bunny? They lay their eggs on a rabbit's butt, then the eggs hatch and the maggots eat the rabbit alive - BUTT FIRST. It's slow, painful and unimaginably gross. So PETA are so hypocritical saying that flies shouldn't be killed when they directly threaten other animals and, as you say, spread disease. I hate PETA!
