The performers can't be faulted for the script, but I really hate the way Ensler and most other older feminists talk about hair removal. I can feel more sensation when it's waxed or shaved. It looks nothing like a little girl's, because hormones add pigment and fat to the area. I like being able to see it, rather than a matted mess of rastapubes. Live and let live, and stay out of my decision to groom the kitten, Ensler.

The monologue isn't meant to endorse the idea that waxing and shaving isn't right, it's meant to express that no woman should feel bad for what they decide feels good (or wrong, for that matter). Ensler feels that hair removal is redundant, and that is her opinion, but her message is clear: your vagina is unique and should not be pressured into doing something it doesn't want to do.

The script could probably have been better done, but I think the message stands: YOU should be the deciding factor in what happens to your body, including the decision of whether to shave or not.

@phorcysx I don't think she's necessarily saying that if you prefer it, don't do it, but rather that the media would have us believe (predominantly in porn) that you're not sexy if you don't. My girlfriend LOVES being shaven; she has an electric for just that purpose and uses it every couple of days. That's fine for her. Me? I tried it twice, and HATED it; felt everything Ensler described. The point of this monologue is that women shouldn't have to be coerced into shaving if they don't want to.

I don't see why everyone is trying to defend this script.

Ensler is not saying "Do what you want to your vulva, get rid of your hair if you want"

It specifically says "You have to love hair in order to love the vagina. You can't pick the parts you want."

I don't see how just because someone likes to be hair free means that they don't love their vagina. That's ridiculous.
