One of our former banknotes featured a picture of a cricket match at Dingley Dell. Well, there really is a Dingley Dell, but it's more famous for its bluebell wood, which is a breath-taking sight in April each year. With trusty video camera in hand, I went to record the event.

  • For a moment, i shared it with you and longed once again to sit against a tree and breathe it all in. The warmth on my face, dappled sunlight and the wonderul scent and all the while listening to the bird song and russle of the leaves. Food for the soul, now ruined...words fail me

  • Dotty, I will be returning in the Spring of next year to see if the problems have been resolved.

  • Who says there is no such thing as magic? It is all around us.

  • Since filming this video, some people have been using the field next to the wood as a motorcycle track, evening and weekends. This year when I went to see the bluebells, you couldn't hear the birds singing for the sound of the bikes, or smell the lovely scent for the exhaust fumes. Completely spoilt.

  • I remember as a child in West Yorkshire, we used to visit a place called Bluebell Hill. I and my elder sister used to come back with a bunch of bluebells each for our Mum to put in vases.

Sadly, they closed it off to the public, as I think it was accessed through a farmer's land by right of way, but I think people were doing too much damage.

  • Dingley Dell is on the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire border in Central England.

  • There's another Dingle Dell I know of - it's some 40 acres of carefully-tended valley in the middle of Auckland's Eastern suburbs. I played there as a child. Sadly no bluebells, just tree-ferns and bush!

  • here for 1 month then gone . beautiful-check out tehidy woods on cornwalls north shore!

  • It is a shame that some people could be so selfish. That would ruin the environment for the birds and natual elements , as well. What a loss.

  • We have a wood near us that gets covered like that I agree they smell beautiful
