No player's average has been more negatively affected by a single bowler. Take innings against McGrath out of the reckoning and it touches 50. Odd because he played Pollock really well.

Poor Athers. My all time favorite test innings is his epic 185 not out in South Africa to save the test. A truly old school innings and one of the best of all time. It summed Athers up perfectly. Back against the wall, tenacious and trying to stave off defeat. Not a great batsman by any means but the best we had at that time. Opening against McGrath, Akram, Younis, Ambrose, Walsh and Donald was not easy.
Now he is one of the best commentators in the game. God bless Iron Mike.

@averythehero Yep he was a hero of mine, and i think he is one of the best commentators of all time, not just a current great, I love his commentary! Ive uploaded full series highlights of that 95/96 test series in south africa on my other channel, good viewing!
