Mostly, this is a test video to experiment with some effects and features of my new FinalCut software. I didn't shoot this with a camcorder (just a Canon S3IS), but I think it came out decently given the equipment I was using. This video starts at the Brookshire Freeway interchange on I-77 North and ends at the Concord Mills / Bruton Smith Blvd. exit on I-85 North. Hope you enjoy!

  • That's pretty darn good considering you are using a "Point & Shoot" Camera and the road is not very well lit, nice!

Are you using the full Final Cut Studio 3? I've wondered if it's worth the $1K to upgrade from FCE4.

  • @Freewayjim Thanks! I was also impressed that it turned out "this" well considering the equipment I was using. I did have to use the brights on some stretches.

Unfortunately, no. I have FCE4 as well. I wanted to get the pro, Studio 3 box but I wasn't sure that it would be worth paying for software that I didn't have a use for (or even knew how to use haha). Do you think it's possible to buy the upgrade version that's priced at $299 since we already have Final Cut??

  • North Carolina may still be perceived as a predominantly rural state (for justified reasons), but they've really developed quite a nice and modern freeway network in that state.

That section, around 0:55 is pretty cool; almost feels like a roller-coaster for a few seconds, there. :)

  • @FreewayBrent North Carolina has made great strides in the last two decades in improving its freeways as the state urbanizes dramatically. The budget and funding problems have always been issues, but they've found a way to finish the northeastern arc of I-485 in Charlotte and widen I-85 to NC 73 in Cabarrus County. The I-485/85 interchange will be reconstructed to a 4-level stack.

  • I agree, most recent highway construction in NC has been very well done (See Greensboro & Durham) and built with the future in mind (I-485's first segments are exempt from this compliment)

  • @Freewayjim 485 in Pineville is absolute hell! The state has decided to finish the NE arc before widening any completed sections. Most of the massive and expensive freeway building going on in Greensboro is in anticipation of an "aerotropolis" and logistics hub that officials want to see the area around the airport (PTI) turn into. I really doubt that will happen considering the cost of oil will likely rise in the coming years.

  • I recently drove on I-85 from Lexington to Charlotte and there was construction everywhere. They are replacing that really narrow Yadkin River bridge and also widening I-85 from where you stopped to I think NC 73 and from the Yadkin Bridge to the U.S. 52 freeway.

  • No, unfortunately you have to have a previous version of Final Cut Studio to get the upgrade price. I think you made the right call with FCE4 for $199, unless you really know how to use most of the software in the suite, $1K is an awful lot to blow.

  • @CAMINOANDALUZ Thank you!

  • Nice ride, good driving!! man, nice night!!. :)
