Actually the Gypsy Baron is supposed to be sung that way.

I think Hermann Prey was a superb singer and actor. It would be very difficult to find another version of this aria sung with so much flair, intelligence, audacity and taste. He was wonderful. We miss him dearly.

I remember this so well from these performances. Very thrilling. Prey was a glorious communicator and such a personlaity

A great performance. Someone said, by the way, that an opera ends in a death and an operetta in a marriage. You decide.

if u are studying opera singing maybe u should know that "The Gipsy Baron" is an operetta, not an opera...if u would google it you would see that in an operetta is a medley of singing and talking...
So...don't be so pride of your knowledge

I'm reminded of a quote (I believe by Stravinsky) which basically says that all music can be categorized into song and dance. It turns out that not all vocal pieces are songs and all instrumental pieces dances. Here, Prey is singing a dance, if you will. His choice of intepretation is fitting, to my ears. Hard for a dance to be lyric or legato, it must have strong accents.

You just don't want to hear the truth...He is talking, not singing, there is No tempo, the orchestra and singer doesn't play together... So who are intelligent? I am studying opera singing and i can hear talking and singing.

where are you come from?

Oh, written like a true Philistine. And you can do better?
This isn't Wagner! And this is probably the best production of this operetta (remember this is OPERETTA!!!) you will ever see in your lifetime! Get real. One of the most intelligent, lively and truly ENTERTAINING productions ever.

Yes, this is from a production of "Die Fledermaus" in which Prey was Eistenstein, and this is the gala in Act II.
What Prey is singing, is form the "Zigeunerbaron", and not from "Fledermaus". Two different operettes!

Yes, I am aware of it, nonetheless this is "Die Fledermaus" - he was singing in Prince Orlofsky's ball - did you pay attention to the beginning of the video or to the video title?

Alfred is my favourite, as a character. He's suppose to be very funny and in this production O'neill is fantastic. But this is just my opinion ;)
