In the late summer of 2007 John Rucker visited Earthshine to help us locate Eastern Box Turtles for our Eastern Box Turtle conservation project. He has four dogs that find turtles by their scent--these dogs are truly amazing! They will dive into briers and swim through thickets just to find turtles! When their tails start wagging and their noses start popping they have the scent and then when they find the turtles they gently bring them back to John and I for data collection. After the data is collected we release the turtles back where the dogs found them. I am still in awe of how amazing these dogs truly are--thanks again John!
