Gateway Travel Plaza in Breezewood, PA

This is the Gateway Truck Stop in Breezewood, PA. It's at exit 164 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76/70). This truck stop dates back to sometime in the thirties, just about when the Pensylvania Turnpike was built. The Pa Turnpike, or the Penna Pike as some people call it was the first modern paved toll road in the world. It should be noted that TA doesn't own this truck stop. The Gateway is one of my four most favorite truck stops in the US. The other three are the Iowa 80 in Walcott, IA, Trails Truck Stop in Albert Lea, MN, and the Jubitz Truck Stop in Portland, OR.

One of the most important motor highway crossroads in the US & this establishment has been there almost as long. I would've liked to see more history.

Unfortunately that was the only plaque they had. There are plenty of old photos on the walls of the restaraunt but I really didn't have that much time to get all the photos in. I rarely get to take the PA Tpk anymore as I'm usually going through PA on I-80 so I figured I could get what I could. Hard to believe the" Penna Pike" as some locals call it, is the world's first paved toll road.

@woodencoasterfan truck driver's don't ask for too much and you guys still get treated like shit. my stepdad was a truck driver ,he could tell you alot of stories .i can't see how you guys do it ,from the weather , travelers on the road ,police,your company,and sometimes family.

@trowe1986 This t/s is one of the best I'd ever been to. What's important to me is that there be plenty of washers and dryers for when I need to do my laundry, a decent sit down restaraunt like a Perkins or a Dennys for example, a drivers room with TV, a clean and well lighted parking lot, and control of the undesireables (prostitutes). I don't like being woken up at night by people "walking the lot". That's what I look for it a truck stop
