(part 2) But here's the real purpose of practice: to be able to translate the ineffable quality of a song or of a performance into a rhythmic reflection of the musical gesture. Keep your focus on simply locking in. This means unbroken hypnotic pulsing. Then when you feel yourself lifting off your throne hold the image of the thing you're representing in your head and especially in your body. Become that thing - slithery or machine-like, dangerous or friendly. This is the meaning of groove.

As a music producer I want to comment. I wouldn't say anything if I didn't think you have promise.
Every song has a character - say, oiled gears swirling smoothly, or ratchets snapping like robot arms, maybe a snake gliding menacingly through the grass at nightfall, sometimes like a war machine crushing everything in its path. Some drummers think that practicing makes them able to play more complex, or faster, patterns. (more)

@TheBasementDrummer For something tangentially related, perhaps Chevelle? Will keep an eye out!
