Joyce Baker, the real Queenslander telling her story on this video, lost her life savings in a mortgage scheme.
The man who was supposed to protect investors like Joyce was Mark McArdle.
He was a partner, director and shareholder in a firm called Boyce Garrick. He was listed in the prospectus as being responsible for ensuring ongoing compliance within the Scheme requirements. Joyce and hundreds of Queenslanders, many of them elderly trusted Mr McArdle to look after them and their money. They lost everything.
While Joyce struggled to put her life back together, and Mr McArdle's partner in the scheme got struck off the solicitor's roll, Mr McArdle ran for Queensland State Parliament with the LNP.
Now he is the Deputy Leader. He is the man Lawrence Springborg will make Deputy Premier if the Nationals win the Queeensland election on March 21.
In this video, Joyce Baker tells her story and has some questions for Mr McArdle and Mr Springborg.

What Planet do you come from ajma2326 - You obviously do not understand much of the financial System - Ms Baker & 100's or 1,000's of other Queenslanders did not chose to be hurt or to be victims / most people don't. Many people have been wrongly or deliberately & recklessly exploited or disadvantaged at the hands of a stronger party. Best you should grow up first !

I don't think Joyce Baker is looking for pity - she's wanting us to think about the kind of man who is running again for public office. we've all got skeletons but would the public be happy if christopher skase or alan bond or rodney adler or ray williams were in the running to become deputy premier of qld? i think not.

I don't believe that is their point...
The point is, would you then trust such a person to help run the state?

Tell that to the thousands of Australians who had their superannuation with notable Australian financial companies whom sent our money to the US and invested it into failing companies - some of themnow bankrupt.
Yes there's risk. But Mr McArdle was the firm rep. responsible for regulation.
Let's put this into perspective.
Mr McArdle's recent attack on the Bligh Government, attributing the State's susceptibility to the GFC as fanciful is hypocrisy of the worst.
He can't have it both ways.

I'm sorry, but am I meant to feel some sort of pity for Ms Baker? She made the choice to invest and she has to live with those choices, instead of blaming everyone else
