The Bombay Enthusiasts of America and Feline Forum of Greater New York hosted hundreds of felines and their owners recently as the pampered pedigrees competed in the annual Cat Fanciers' Association Spring Break at the Beach Cat Show, an annual event held this year at Asbury Park's Berkeley Hotel.
New this year to the Household Pets class, in which non-pedigree kitties charm the judges with their good looks and personalities, is the inclusion of handicapped pets. Robin Poirier brought her CC Roo, a very lucky black cat whom she adopted after he was rescued by the Rutland County Humane Society in Vermont. When a serious infection in his front leg slated him for euthanasia, the shelter's medical coordinator found a veterinarian who agreed to amputate the limb at a very reduced cost.
Poirier hopes to have Roo certified as a therapy cat to work in VA hospitals. For more information about the Rutland County Humane Society and adopting a shelter pet, visit http://www.rchsvt.org/
