@hopeintruth1 That's right. The combined effect of the greenhouse gases including the now0.0392% of CO2, is around 33deg C. Google "wiki greenhouse gases" for more information. Without these gases planet earth would have a climate similar to the moon with extremes of up to 123deg during the day and -233deg at night. The bulk of the atmosphere,Nitrogen and Oxygen, do not have these greenhouse properties.

@yogbert Actually the combined effect of the green house gases has been known about for over a century. I am afraid your statement about CO2 having no effect on global temperature is just nonsense. Without these gases the temperature of the Earth would on average be 33degC lower!
