  • Question people! What do you mean by Konigin?

  • @Maranedy Queen :)

  • i can't believe this was my friends voice teacher. lucky. is this rly the original tempo?

  • I'ts supposed to be the original tempo, because of anonym testifications made by people who were at the premiere ;)

  • so fast!! cool!

  • Yes, because it is supposed to be the original tempo with the original instruments.

  • Fabulous performance and unapproachable by any singer I've heard. The faster tempo is a little odd to unaccustomed ears, but the staccato on the high F suddenly makes sense at this speed. Damrau's voice is flexible and accurate; her pronunciation is astonishingly clear. It's simply perfect singing.

  • Wunderbar.... Sie ist di beste Konigin der Nacht!!

  • Oh My God....

This is way too perfect...... Being such an evil character, yet still to give the feeling her love for her lost child... Mozart was a genius, and I bet he would love to write operas for Diana, for that she is the best, especially as the Königin der Nacht....

    BRAVA Diana Damrau!!!!!!!!!

  • @Babs22h it's faster and she hits every single note.

  • When people think of the Queen of the Night, they immediately think of "Der Holle Rache". Don't forget "O Zittre Nicht". It is beautiful and challenging in it's own right.

  • @Rhopoe Her name was Josepha Hofer. She was the original Queen of the Night. Moser did wake the dead with her "Der Holle Rache" no doubt.

  • @jjh2456 Oh yes, I read that somewhere too... Do you happen to know this sister-in-law's name? (Well, can look it up) Anyway, I do enjoy Madame Moser's version of this aria (her Königin der Nacht generally) over other– perhaps equally talented– ladies'. I just feel like Moser– in her seemingly inexhaustible voice– fleshed out every note to the fullest, breathlessly. I feel here Damrau didn't own it as much. She's wonderful nonetheless. But I'm Team Moser.

  • @Rhopoe This is actually the tempo it is supposed to be sung in. When Mozart wrote this role he wrote it for his sister-in-law who was perhaps the greatest vocalist ever known at that time. She had a vocal range that no one could ever dream of and could do thing that no would ever attempt like hit a total of 5 Fs over high C.during her performance of this role.

  • I don't want to start pandemonium here but I must know what all the hullabaloo is about on her Königin der Nacht? No, she's far from awful. I just feel that here, she seems rushed (& I'm not talking about the tempo) & out of breath– because she is rushed! A bit disappointing after all the praise... Anyway, I still maintain that Edda Moser is unchallengeable in her Königin interpretation...

  • That was effortless and ridiculously FAST!!! WOW!!

  • Best Queen of the Night ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I know it hasn't got much to do with her music but I just wanted to say she looks very pretty with blond hair.
