A Grandmother's Smile (Extensive Photo Restoration)

This is the sort of project I like: difficult and painstaking. None more so than this photo from the vaults of a family who were on the verge of losing this rare image of their grandmother, which was (and is) cocooned in a thick laminate of TAPE. The photo had been torn in the process of trying to extract it from a family album at one time and the exuberant mummification using inexpensive office tape was an attempt to both fix and hold the image together & protect it from further damage.

Over 70 years later, however, the tape has become one with the photograph, and there is no good way to change that without risking destroying the image forever. Thanks to technology, the photo can be brought back in all its glory and THEN some with the help of a skilled artist :)

Many thanks, Nick! The photo came full circle in the fact that I nearly destroyed the photo album plastic the picture was in because the adhesive from all the old tape stuck to it, as well!

Extensive is an understatment, a skilled artist, so true. I did a couple of these for my mum, but they wheren't as damaged as this one. Great work Mel.
