Even if GID is removed as a mental "disorder", it does not erase the stress and daily discomfort of the lived experience as a trans person whether by discrimination or personal discordance. I see many great possibilities to the removal of GID as a mental disorder and movement towards continued "treatment" for the stress and anguish that is secondary to being trans. One need not be diagnosed with a MENTAL disorder to receive medical treatment including hormone therapy and surgery.

This is not so black & white. There's a legitamite concern that if GID is de-classified as a disorder in the DSM that health care funding could be more difficult to obtain. Check out the comment by the activist here regarding Sweden's de-classification and the potential impact on trans kids:

298/ I don't think it's a mental disorder, but GID needs some sort of classification to ensure coverage. Perhaps as a neuro-endocrinological condition?

Those persons demonstrating for the elimination of the GID designation are working counter to those seeking to get SRS covered by insurance. The paradigm for insurance is that it covers treating a problem. If GID ceases to be a problem, then the rationalle for insurance covering SRS disappears.
From what I hear, this APA meeting heard several papers which should advance the cause of TGs by further showing that GID is due to specific neurotransmitters and structures in the brain.

I was there among "those persons" demonstrating. You are wrong on all accounts, except about the papers being heard.
I am filming a video in response to this this afternoon and will be putting it up soon.
