  • Hi Joe, what weight intermediate or floating line do you sugest to throw the STeve FArrar striper fly? The fly is awesome...

  • @bluefishpredator I ALWAYS use a 9wt intermediate sinking line with all my flies even with clousers but the steve farrar fly will actually float for a while before sinking because it sheds water so nice so u need to use a sinking line. its a good fly it can take a beating too..i like the enrico imitations that i make they seem to hold shape better..but thats a good fly to tie in a rush and it works great for blues and zebras

  • nice fly I been tying for 7 yrs, building custom rods for 3 yrs. tying fresh & saltwater flys. liked the way you explained each step. will try to tye a couple & try in florida panhandle. thanks again

  • @bonefisher2007 thank you..u should check out my other fly with the enrico fiber..it holds a shape better..thank you for the comment.

  • Nice fly. Do you fish it with an intermediate or sinking line?

  • @rwar1423 it depends what im looking to catch and what water column im fishing in..usually with that fly its an intermediate bc that fly slowly sinks...if i was using a popper i would use floating line

  • Thanks for the tips and input. Yes i notice the fly resists sinking , i actually tied a few with a few wraps of lead wire to bring it down. We got the albies up here now and i got my first one today on a flyrod with a surf candy..there awesome they must make an appearance down there..hope you get into em..

  • Hi Joe,

Maybe after the third or fourth wrap add a couple of microbarb saddles so they extend 15mm past the end of the body. Then add more wraps of the material.

    Other than that,great tutorial brother

    Cheers

    Si

  • I Tie saltwater flies just like you so I suggestion I have is to you rattle eyes. All fish have a lateral line in them. So when the eyes rattle they pick it up easy. Glue them on just like you did with the other eyes. Try it. It does work

  • Thanks for the info.
