This took forever! I decided that as well as doing an 8-bit style version of the music for the beginning of Super Metroid, I'd do the visuals over in NES style as well. Some sprites, like Samus's face, are recolors of her SNES sprites, but others like the baby Metroid and her ship are completely custom. The sound effects were made from scratch too. I put the visuals all put together in Photoshop's frame-by-frame animation window; getting the timing on the Mother Brain battle sequence was one of the hardest part but I think it's more or less the same as the timing would be if it was a clip recorded from a game.

Hope people enjoy it!

  • Why couldn't you use Metroid 2 Sprites for Part 2? That would make more sense...

  • @IvoryGecko1993

I could have, but I wanted the sprites to be consistent in style throughout the video. I went with Metroid 1 style instead of Metroid 2 because it was actually for the NES, which is what I was going for. Imagine that Metroid 2 had also been made on the NES, if you want.

  • Great job! Do you have an NSF of the music?

  • that was awesome!

  • Now that was an impressive display of downgrading them bits.

  • 0:48 like a "confused" child...

  • That was awesome. I'm so glad to read that the special-effect noises were yours because I loved the little metroid special effect noise!

  • This is awesome,

And the only thing more awesome is if this was actual homebrew and I could run it on my TV. But that's dangerous--that would blow my mind.,
