The BUSY indicator on the PICkit 2 will go on during programming. When completed, click the run button and watch the LED blink according to the program instructions. Add a CR2032 battery to make a LED Throwie that will run for 1 to 2 weeks on a single battery. You can trim the leads from the PIC or you may want to keep them as is so that you can reprogram the BlinkLED.

I decided to make a PCB for easier assembly. I also used a lower cost PIC, the 10F202. I added a surface mount bypass capacitor and substituted a SMT resistor. The .1 in header pins make it easier to connect the BlinkLED units together and to the source of power (battery or power supply) using #30 gauge wire wrap wire.

  • I used the PIC10F202 with a custom PCB. For more details, search for BlinkLED on the instructables web site.

  • Controllers are PICs made by Microchip. You can purchase them from Mouser, Digikey or MicrochipDirect. You might also try eBay.
