This compilation of video clips was extracted from the television series "Early Musical Instruments" directed and narrated by David Munrow. In this installation, I have selected a handful of pieces by Protestant composers in the generation leading up to and through the social and religious conflagration of the Thirty Years' War that devastated Germany and much of Central Europe. One can hear the rapid transformation of a musical style from late Renaissance to early Baroque.
@ArnoldSchwarznigger All of the instruments are either reproduced from originals that still exist, or, typically, from the illustrations of the book Syntagma Musicum. As for the music, I don't know, but I would assume that it is accurate.

How accurate is the sound to what it actually sounded like in the early 1600s? (e.g. the reliability of instruments and sheets.)

Is it me or is "La Bouree" by Praetorius missing like one note around 02,17? I usually play along on my guitar but I always get thrown off at that point...
