I've been an Artful Dodger fan since about '78, and saw them in Cleveland in '79, but "I can't help but wonder" why they mic'd the drums on a lipsync! they usually didn't go for all that authenticity back then! hmmmmm :)

Very impressed. Only thing I've read about this band was reviews in my old Creem and Trouser Press magazines back in the day. Will break them out to find and re-read those old reviews. Many thanks for this clip. If only Rod Stewart looked/ dressed as cool as the lead singer!

I bought this album for .25 cents at the local library in Arlington, VA. I didn't know they were from here, so I looked them up in the phone book. I called, only to chicken out. I just sold my entire, sweet record collection and kept ONE record - RAVE ON!!!

great band, great music.
loved in Cleveland.

The chorus at the end has always reminded of the coda at the end of 'Hot Love' by T.Rex.

They've done a couple reunions at the latest Cleveland Agora site over the past 5 years, as mymoneybgone noted below
The Agora is now out near E. 55th and Euclid vs. its more famed Cleveland State U location off Chester Ave.
On the reunions, they used the original line-up + Peter Bonta on keyboads.

Sheesh! What happened? How did we end up where we are now? This is great stuff! Now you know why I quit playing---stuff like this went away.

Wow! Born and raised in Cleveland, I listened to these guys religiously in High School. After all these years, (and having moved out West after High School) it was wonderful to have run across this tune. Thanks so much for the Video!!

No mp3's - we're all waiting on American Beat Records to reissue this album. However, there is a really great high quality live version of this song on Clear Channel's New Artist network. The link to Artful Dodger's stuff is on the YOUTUBE ArtfulDodgerSite Main Page. Enjoy!

SO did these guys ever make it big??? to me they sound like a rolling stones with Rod Stewart as the lead singer

They were popular in pockets. Ohio was a very good market for them, especially around Cleveland, where "Wayside", "It's Over" and "Scream" received quite a bit of airplay. The rock critics were also pleased with all four of their album releases. Unfortunately, they never made it big time. I'm sure they love that Rolling Stones comparison - Rod Stewart and the Faces was another band that served as an inspiration (they did a few Faces covers over the years).
