@johnmcluskeyThe more nostalgic people get, the higher the "quoted" horsepowers seem to get... Many magazine sources and yearbooks quote much lower figures. As a rule of thumb I'd say 400-500 was common figure. What people especially seem to forget that the development was rapid, but the biggest gains were made in very short timespan, so having some uber figures in the last rallies of 1986 doesn't mean they had a year or two earlier.

This is when drivers were drivers. I am not slagging of the current WRC guys and as a scot one of my heroes was McCrae. But drivers like Salonen, Vatanen, Rohl, Toivonen, Blomquist & Pond were made from different stuff. Nearly all the good group 'B' cars had over 600hp. Salonen said the evo 2 version would happily plug away all day with 620hp with the boost just above 3.0 bar. Same with the Audi's & Lancia. They just don't make them anymore. And the Metro 6R4 needed turbo's to be competitive.

@youlance29 What are you suggesting , that a ZR1 would be a better rally car than this ? Get a life redneck scrot.,
